Cat. #003243: SYLVIA SIDNEY

Vintage 8x10-inch black and white youthful publicity portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the early 1940s. In good condition, with gentle edgewear. Throughout the 1930s, lovely leading lady Sylvia Sidney was said to possess the saddest eyes in Hollywood. Specializing in victim roles, she was marvelous in classic films like City Streets (1930), An American Tragedy (1930), Madame Butterfly (1932), Fritz Lang's Fury (1936), and You Only Live Once (1937) before embarking upon a stage career. She returned to the big screen in the 1970s, snagging an Oscar nomination for Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973), and proving herself formidable, despite her advanced age, in horror, sci-fi and fantasy flicks like Damien: Omen II (1978), and Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988) and Mars Attacks! (1998).
